How One Spicy Kitten Learned to Love and Found a Forever Home
Our hearts really go out to any kittens that are found on the street. In many cases, they are struggling just to make it from one day to the next, but there are kind people who help.
That is the case with Flatbush Cats. They are a cat rescue in Brooklyn, New York, and they work with feral cats every day.
This included one little kitten named Loko that was spicy when they first brought him in, but it wasn't long before he was literally eating out their hands.
It isn't unusual to have cats that are sassy when they arrive at the shelter. Sometimes they just need a little space, but at other times, they need a helping hand to acclimate them to their potential new life.
There are times when kittens are not able to be socialized. If they are older than 12 weeks and they don't quickly socialize, they go back outside where they are more comfortable. It's common with feral cats not to be able to be domesticated, and, therefore, not to thrive in a human home.
On the other hand, kittens such as Loko begin to get socialized right away.
The first step in the process is to offer them some chicken baby food. If they are able to eat the food from the hand of their rescuer, it's a good sign that they can be acclimated to a new life and a new home.
As you will see in the video below, there are a number of other things they do to help acclimate the kittens to a new life as well, including brushing them with an electric toothbrush.
Loko, however, was a rather unusual case. He had to be taught that indoor life is the best life, and to do so, they introduced him to a resident cat, Garfield.
Garfield was eager to do his best, and he completely changed Loko's life. The introduction was slow, but before long, they were visiting for hours every day.
Garfield helped Loko to know that he didn't have to go it alone. It wasn't long before they were able to transition to having humans show him the same love.
Another kitten came into the mix, Arya. She was blind and almost died outside, but they brought her in and put her with another kitten, Guapo.
The two of them paired off so that they would always have a companion in life. Eventually, they also were introduced to Garfield and Loko.
It wasn't long before these street kittens were ready for their new, forever life. They loved living indoors, they were the sweetest cats you could imagine, and they are now living in their forever homes.

I love to write and it keeps me busy. I've been working online, full time since 1999. When you can't find me at the keyboard, you'll find me getting as much as I can out of life. I enjoy living simply, playing games, visiting the beach, and spending time with my family.
