Tortoise Owner Wakes Her Pet Up From Hibernation In Freezer
Tortoise owners are probably familiar with a winter hibernation routine. While not all tortoises hibernate, many do and it's something that many pet owners help their animals adjust to.
Growing up, I had an aunt with a pet tortoise and I still remember the first time he went into hibernation. As a small child, I was so sure that the poor thing had died, but in reality, he was just sleeping for months. He was placed in a shoebox in the closet and left alone, but each animal is a little bit different.
A 5-year-old tortoise named Turtle recently went into his first hibernation at his home in Belfast, and his owner, Christina Cousins, put him in a freezer to do it!
If you've ever wondered what the process of waking a torotise up from hibernation is like, look no further because Cousins (TikTok user @tinaxturtle) shared a video waking Turtle from his hibernation and it's gained a lot of attention online.
In the clip, which was captioned, "Waking turtle the tortoise up from his first hibernation," you can see Turtle being taken from the freezer and very slowly beginning to warm up.
It takes a bit of time, but eventually, Turtle is walking around and even ready to eat some food! His imaginary winter is over and spring is about to begin.
Since being posted, the video was viewed more than 11 million times and people wanted to know more!
In a follow-up video, Christina explains how she prepares her tortoise for hibernation and why she chooses to put her tortoise into hibernation since he lives indoors.
