Tourists Discover "Alien" Fish Washed Up On Australian Beach
One of my favorite parts about going to the beach is the uncertainty of what I might find. Each day is different, and though the beach remains relatively the same, the tides are always changing, bringing different shells and sticks and fish.
It's always a surprise and each new day is full of predictable unpredictability when at the beach.
Tourists at the mouth of the Kennett River in Victoria, Australia were treated to something really out of the norm when they stumbled upon a massive alien-looking fish! Cath and Tom Rampton were among the tourists to discover the strange, large fish that had washed ashore.
In an interview with The Daily Mail, Cath explained that the fish measured around 6.5 feet in length and height, which is massive for a fish but actually on the smaller side for its species. "My understanding is it's not a very big specimen, I think they can get up to double that size," she said.
Green9ja shared photos of the sunfish on Facebook so you can see them for yourself:
According to British Sea Fishing, ocean sunfish, otherwise known as mola mola, can grow up to 10-13ft and weigh some 5,000 pounds.
They're a rare sight but are occasionally spotted resting on the surface of tropical waters.
Sunfish spend most of their days slowly moving around and eating jellyfish. Scientists are still learning about these unusually large sea creatures, but one thing is certain: they're really something special!
