Instacart Reveals Which Starts Are "Dog States" And Which States Prefer Cats
For as long as any of us can remember, there has been an ongoing debate. It is the debate over cats versus dogs, and it doesn't show any signs of stopping.
Most people either consider themselves to be a "cat person" or a "dog person," showing their side of the argument in just a few words. As it turns out, that can also be extended to individual states as well.
You are probably familiar with Instacart because of their grocery delivery service, but they decided to do something special for National Pet Month. They shared their shopping data and something interesting took form.
According to FOX2 Detroit, the Instacart trend expert, Laurentia Romaniuk, said: "It's a common observation that people tend to fall into one of two categories: being more of a cat person or being more of a dog person. With this in mind, it's interesting to take a closer look at the 'Cats vs. Dogs' map created for National Pet Month."
She went on to say that it didn't surprise them that dogs were the number one pet in 36 out of 50 states in the US. This was seen because of the higher level of dog food deliveries via Instacart.
There were 14 other states, including Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota that seemed to have a preference for felines.
The maps that were created by Instacart included more than just dogs or cats. There were other pets that seem to have a degree of popularity, and they were included on the maps as well.
Some of the different items that were delivered included rabbit food, fish food, bird food, and hay for smaller animals.
Fish food had the highest popularity in Nevada, and they seem to be unique in that area. Bird food and hay for small animals were scattered in various states, but interestingly, a band of bird food stretched from Texas straight north to the Canadian border.
Dog food was popular throughout the United States, with cat food being popular in Washington and Oregon, Minnesota, and all of the Northeast from Pennsylvania northward.
Of course, there are going to be cat people, even in states where dog people tend to be the ruling majority.
This was done for National Pet Month, but Instacart is also now partnering with PetSmart, so that played into the research as well.
