Breast Cancer Vaccine Could Eliminate The Disease By 2030

Chances are, you or someone you know has been impacted by cancer in a big way. Treatment options tend to be expensive, physically challenging, and not always reliable.

Now, it seems there might be a better solution on the horizon, at least when it comes to breast cancer.

According to The Mirror, researchers have created a groundbreaking breast cancer vaccine, and early trials have shown shown promising results. In fact, the trials resulted in remission for up to five years in participants, even in patients at high risk of relapse.

The vaccine is produced by Anixa Biosciences and works by training the body to target a protein commonly found in pregnant and lactating women. That protein also appears in many forms of breast cancer, so they're hoping that targeting it will work to target the cancer.

According to The Mirror, Dr. Amit Kumar, the CEO of Anixa Biosciences, said:

"We believe that within five years, it'll be on the market for people...who had breast cancer and are worried about recurrence. A couple of years after that, it should be available for all women, including those who have never had breast cancer. It is very exciting."

According to the Cleveland Clinic, which is conducting the trials, the research was funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. Researchers are focusing on a specific type of breast cancer called Triple-Negative Breast Cancer, but they plan to expand beyond that.

The American Cancer Society reports that breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States, except for skin cancers. They note that it makes up around 30% of all new female cancers each year.

Breast cancer rates have increased by 0.5% in recent years. Considering breast cancer is the second-leading cause of death in women, this vaccine could be a game-changer for millions of people.

If the vaccine progresses and is released to the public, it'll be the first of its kind.
