Veteran Helps Bring Stolen Yorkie Back Home After She Was Snatched From The Yard
I speak for most of us when I say that we would do almost anything for our dogs. They give us so much love, and we look for any way to repay them.
Our effort often works well for our dogs, but it can sometimes cause problems. After all, some people with evil motives also know we would do anything for our dogs, and they can try to take advantage of it.
That is what happened to Raquel Witherspoon. According to Good Morning America, her Yorkshire Terrier, Avery, was out in front of her house one day, and someone came by and took her. It happened in the blink of an eye.
After they took her dog, Raquel started posting flyers in the neighborhood. Thanks to a doorbell video camera, she also had a picture of the person who took the dog.
Not long after she started searching for her dog, she got some text messages. They demanded a $1,200 ransom for Avery and even sent a video of Avery in a cage. As you can imagine, this was very stressful for Witherspoon.
All seemed dark, but there was a silver lining. It came in the way of a US Marine Corps veteran, Richard Machamer.
After seeing the flyer, Machamer contacted Witherspoon and offered to help. He has a background in Marine intelligence and was willing to use his training to get her dog back again.
When he spoke with Good Morning America, he said it all started with the phone number that was used to send messages to Witherspoon. He ran it through a database but came up empty-handed.
That is when he pulled what he called a Hail Mary. He added the number to his phone, and within a few hours, Instagram sent him a link to connect with an account associated with the number.
Before long, they had located the person who stole Avery, and the dog was returned to her family. They also arrested a 16-year-old in connection with the dognapping.
