Farmer Demonstrates Why You Should Never Release Balloons In The Sky

Balloons are a lot of fun for people to celebrate with, but oftentimes, they end up causing more harm than good.

Jess, who goes on TikTok by @prairiejess, owns a small farm near Houston, Texas and she's regularly working to keep her animals healthy and profitable.

Recently, she took to TikTok to share her woes with balloons and explain just why you shouldn't release them in the sky.

In the video, she said: "So I'mma tell you right now, I don't care if this video pisses you off. I was at the dollar store a couple weeks ago and this ladies buying balloons and they say, 'Happy Birthday.'"

She went on to say that she watched as the balloons were aired up and heard somebody ask who the balloons were for. The lady purchasing the balloons said, "Oh, we're going to release them for my mother's birthday."

Of course, Jess couldn't stay quiet. She reportedly told the woman that she shouldn't release the balloons because in the end, they land somewhere and they can hurt animals.

Apparently, the person said this mom had passed away and he was releasing the balloons for her in heaven. Unfortunately, balloons can't make it to heaven, and even though the sentiment is nice, the reality is far from it. Jess showed in her video where balloons do end up, and panned to a bright yellow balloon caught in her pasture's fence.

"dead people don't need balloons and I told her that," she wrote in the caption.

It's not just Jess chiming in about balloons, either. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service actually has a whole page explaining why you shouldn't release balloons.

They explain, "Birds, turtles and other animals commonly mistake balloons for food, which can harm or even kill them. In addition, many animals can become entangled in balloon strings, which can strangle them or hurt their feet and hands."

"Balloons are great at birthdays, weddings, graduations and more, but once they get loose, balloons can pose a threat to many animals," they added.

If you must use balloons, make sure they're properly deflated and disposed of so innocent animals aren't injured accidentally.
