Why Millions Of Pigeons Love New York City
There are many things that you might appreciate about New York City. Perhaps you love architecture or maybe, you just enjoy getting a hot dog from a street vendor.
As it turns out, the things that many of us appreciate about the big city are the same things that pigeons also appreciate about it. No wonder so many millions of pigeons flock to the city every year and call it home.
Of course, there are many people who question why pigeons are such a problem. For some people, it is a big issue and an annoyance and for others, it gives them something to feed at the park.
In order to determine why pigeons love New York City so much, Cheddar News went out on the streets of the city and took a look for themselves. As it turns out, pigeons love New York City so much that they would probably have it printed on their coffee cup, if they drank coffee.
Your average NYS pigeon is actually a type of rock dove that came to the city in the 17th century on French ships. Those birds delivered messages and were faithful navigators, but they didn't necessarily like life on the ocean.
What pigeons do enjoy, however, is a place where they can get above the action and look down on it all. Because of the architecture of the city, pigeons have plenty of places to perch and that is exactly what they do.
Of course, the fact that there is a lot of food lying around and easily obtainable makes NYC a welcome home as well.
