Woman Spots Newborn Squirrel Struggling On The Ground And Welcomes Him In As A Pet
A tiny squirrel was given a second chance at life thanks to a Good Samaritan who uprooted her entire life to care for him.
According to GeoBeats Animals, Ashley found Gordon in her driveway while taking out the trash back in August of 2021. It was evident that the tiny squirrel had fallen from a tree and was in separate need of some help.
Unsure what to do, Ashely looked for local rehabbers to take the squirrel in. When that failed, she tried reuniting the tiny critter with his mom but that was also unsuccessful.
With no other options, Ashley decided to take the role of "Mom" for Gordon and began feeding him every 2-3 hours. She situated him with a heating pad and got a special formula that he could eat. It was like having a newborn baby!
As Gordon began to grow, Ashley quickly noticed something was wrong with him. He couldn't walk in a straight line and it seems that his vision in one eye was damaged.
While the goal of rescuing wild animals is usually to rehabilitate them and release them back into the wild, Gordon's issues made it so that he couldn't survive on his own.
Ashley ended up keeping Gordon and offering him a forever home. "He's my third child," Ashley told GeoBeats Animals.
Gordon now has a special climbing area and is completely spoiled with love and attention. He gets plenty of tasty treats and nutritious food, exercise, and stimulation. He's really got it made!
