The 2022 high in crude oil prices never topped the record set in 2008, yet gas prices have far exceeded price levels set the same year.</p><p>Gas prices remain high because oil and gas companies are gouging consumers, taking advantage of the war in Ukraine to turn a profit.</p><p>There is no reason a major news event should be followed by gas shortages and price spikes. Americans need to be protected from this type of corporate greed.
