Ridhi Bhansali
I was born in 1990 in Jodhpur, known as the 'Sun City' of India. I am chartered accountant by profession and an entrepreneur by birth. When I was a young, my parents taught me and my brother business ethics and principals.
Although I became an accountant, I always wanted to do something to exhibit the beauty of Indian handicrafts. While my brother was earning his degree in the university, he was given a project to create a market venture.
"The idea of crafting handbags from rugs made from recycled fabric came to mind, and I assisted my brother in developing this project. Later, I decided to implement it and explored the art of weaving rugs.
"Eventually, I set up a workshop in 2013 with my brother. Even though I didn't know much about this art at first, I decided to take up the challenge. I learned about weaving by hand by spending time with villagers who are experts in this craft.
"I am proud to be successful in this craft. I do all the designing and my helpers bring them to life.
"While learning about this art form, I lived in weaving villages. At times, it was difficult but it taught me that hard work leads to success.
"We use recycled cotton fabric to weave rugs, which are then made into unique multicolor handbags. The quality of the fabric and bright tonalities represent the culture of a colorful India.
"It isn't easy to source the materials and it takes time to create the fabric, but I work with a team of efficient weavers who are ready for any challenge. I encourage my helpers to educate their children and teach them this art so that they can carry it into the future.
"We earned the president's award for weaving an image of the Taj Mahal on rugs.
"When you do things on your own, it becomes a source of pride not just for yourself but also for your entire family. I hope to share this Indian handwoven art with people around the world."
