As a young girl, I was always attracted to fashion and fabrics, to the textures and the finishing details on the clothing I wore, and what I saw on television, in stores and in advertisements. I knew without a doubt that I'd pursue fashion and good taste when I got older.
I'm Lilia Sakata Guevara and I was born in Lima. I am persistent, detail oriented and very hardworking.
"I spent a big part of my life with my grandparents. My grandfather was a Japanese immigrant and my grandmother was from a highland river valley of fertile fields, where life is calm. I'm proud of my heritage that embraces two cultures.
"I've spent a great deal of time with my family, who supported me, encouraged me to study and were there for me when I needed them the most. I'm very grateful for that and I focused completely on fashion and designing. Although it wasn't easy, I had to work a lot of jobs and sacrifice many trips to be able to pay tuition and buy the materials I needed. I did this to help my parents who worked hard to give me the best.
"When I began working in fashion, I always imagined my apparel would be comfortable, easy to wear and very stylish. I work hard to make to make my designs stand out with a style that is unique, elegant and casual. Things don't come easily and I've dedicated a lot of time to this. We've made mistakes and we try all over again.
"When I decided to set up my own workshop, I knew it would be difficult because the financial situation wasn't good. There were times when I worried that I couldn't make it work and I thought about quitting. I realized that when you want to achieve your dreams, you simply cannot quit. We did everything possible by speaking with our customers and suppliers, and we were able to come to agreements that benefited everyone during that tough time.
"Fashion isn't static. That's why I am passionate about this art. It changes constantly and designers must adjust to this rhythm. Today's shoppers are more and more demanding and I love challenges where I'm able to meet them. It's very motivating.
"My inspiration comes from researching trends and colors. One of my goals is for my art to be recognized around the world."
