When I was a little boy, I loved to fly kites. Whenever I had the chance, I'd play kite games with other children. Our village is actually known for kites and most of our neighbors crafted them. What fun!

My mother didn't make kites. She sold food in a traditional market and, before school, I'd help her find firewood for cooking. After school, I'd walk to market with her and help carry the foods she sold.

"When I was older, I began selling our neighbor's kites, but then I slowly learned the craft myself. I set up a workshop and continue selling our kites, which I design. Four other artisans work with me, and we also make paintings on eggshells.

"We use traditional manual tools like knives, chisels and, sometimes, a lathe. Our main materials are bamboo, wood and polyester silk.

"My wife and I have three children, who are all grown now. Two of them have learned the craft and have their own kite workshops.

"Life is hard work. We have to struggle to get ahead. I remember once when things were very tough. I had no orders but our children needed to pay their school fees. Our situation was very limited but we continued to give thanks to God. Finally, I got more work and things got better for us.

"I hope we do well with our kites and egg paintings so we will all have a better life. But no matter what, we will always be grateful to God with a full heart."
