NOVICA Artisan Ranjeet Singh Saini

Ranjeet Singh Saini

A few years ago, I went to Gujarat with my daughter and discovered that people in the villages there are crafting traditional and colorful handmade handbags. I realized how popular these could be, and bought many of them to make this work known in larger cities.

I began staying in the villages for days altogether to observe the traditional techniques and learn the craft myself. I began working together with the artisans to adapt styles and colors to current fashion trends.

"Cotton is a favorite fabric and comes in a variety of colors and textures.

"Gujarat's traditional motifs are what I love most. They remind me of the history of our millennial Indian art and that it needs to be preserved for the future generations to come.

"My goal is to spread Indian traditional art, culture and values worldwide, eventually helping the artisans to live happily with work and opportunities. Together, we will not let this art form die out."
