Weavers of the Highlands

With beautiful natural and cultural landscapes, the highlands of Guatemala are our greatest source of inspiration. There are extensive mountain chains and verdant valleys. We feel very fortunate to live in this part of the country.

We've joined together to form a group of weavers in this area. We are women of all ages, from girls who are just beginning to weave to elderly women with a lifetime of experience.

"Our main objective is the preservation of our traditional handwoven textiles. This art has been losing ground in recent years and we find it sad, as many of us artisans depend on selling our work to bring home the day's groceries. But we have the hope that things will return to the way they were.

"We're learning new techniques and experimenting with new color combinations that will help us create designs for contemporary shoppers of all ages. In this way, we hope to increase our sales.

"We are totally in love with our Maya customs, colors and traditions, the warmth of our people. We try to convey this in all our weavings.

"We hope you like them because we craft each piece with much love and dedication to share a bit of Guatemala with you."
