NOVICA Artisan Daniel Ledesma

Daniel Ledesma

“My name is Daniel Ledesma Acosta. If I had to describe myself, I would say that I am a very observant, curious, and hardworking man who is always ready to help. I was born in Huancayo, Peru, in a place filled with history and significance. It is known as “The Unyielding City.” It was given this title by Governor Torre Tagle in recognition of the valor of the Huancayan village during the war for independence. This place has different climates throughout the year with beautiful natural landscapes, frosty lakes, and villages.

“I have lived through difficult times. You begin life with ideas and illusions, but once you’re hit with reality it can seem like there’s no escape. But, I think the things that cost us the most to achieve have a value that is indescribable. Whether late or early, we all find our path. I learned how beautiful this type of art is when I met my wife.

“My art tells the story of life in a village. I try to transmit my experiences, beliefs and dreams through each piece. I feel very passionate about this art; I cannot imagine myself doing anything other than Peruvian handicrafts.

“My dream is to revitalize Peruvian art, bringing it to another level and raising our own quality standards in order to be able to exhibit my work and compete in the best markets, sharing Peruvian art with the world. I carry art in my veins. My parents, my uncles, and everyone in my life is involved in art. I have always been a curious person. As a child, I drew and created games with numerous pieces. I love connecting things, and I understand today that art is where this great maze of ideas that I have will end up. From childhood, I have safeguarded the the best memories and love with which I had the fortune of growing.

“In order to learn and achieve mastery in this art, I had to have a lot of patience, curiosity, and desire, as well as the ability to tolerate frustration. It is a difficult job, and it requires passion and love to do it. I do not have the slightest doubt that I put a lot of passion and desire into my work.

“What I love the most about this art is being able to reflect the complexity of recounting a history of life that is also significant. Without a doubt, my main sources of inspiration and strength are my beautiful wife and my son. Working on our own has been a challenge, and we are thankful for God being able to provide talent to our hands in order to create what we do. We value this greatly, and it is what my family and I aim to transmit to the world through our work.

“Everyone in my family has an important role in creating each piece. We discuss the management and improvement of our best pieces from creative, industrial, and strategic perspectives. We love what we do. We dream of seeing the world appreciate our art and our history with its great combinations of hues, colors, and forms that incorporate our social context.

“I am very happy to belong to the Novica family and to be able to gain renown for my art. I am very pleased to have this great opportunity.”
