NOVICA Artisan Teysha

Teysha

“Our goal is to connect people through art, culture, and community, cultivating a more vibrant world.”

After spending many years working with organizations of international development, the team known as Teysha began to work with artisans throughout Latin America with the goal of creating opportunities that allowed them to have constant sources of income with work that represented their abilities.

In the year 2013, Teysha opened its first artisanal center in Pastores, Sacatepéquez, Guatemala. This small place features artisans that create handicrafts with high-quality 100% natural leather. Having begun in 1965, this trade displays art that has been handed down from generation to generation.

Having formed this great team, Teysha offered employment to 15 artisans dedicated to the creation of shoes. With this project, Teysha has also given work to hundreds of women weavers from different Guatemalan cooperatives.

“We have different roles for the artisans, from cutting the leather to assembly, adding the final details, and quality control. Each artisan has marvelous abilities that are transmitted into each piece that they make. Because of this, we want to provide more work for those artisans. It is a phenomenal job that can be extended to more people of the community in order to create more opportunities.

“This has been the work of a lot of time and dedication, but without a doubt it has been worth it. We work with quality materials, which enables our final pieces to be beautiful. The love that our artisans put into the creation of each piece is an essential part of the entire process.

“We love being able to give work to people from distinct communities. We know that they need this help, but above all we are making a change in the preservation of handicrafts made from materials of the region. It is an honor to be able to present these marvelous handicrafts that reflect the art of Guatemala at the highest level.”
