NOVICA Artisan Artisans of Villa de la Encarnacion

Artisans of Villa de la Encarnacion

“We are the Villa de la Encarnación Artisans Collective from the beautiful town of Encarnación de Díaz, Jalisco. It was because of the culture of Encarnación that we decided to form this collective and help ourselves distribute and spread our work.

“This project arose from a latent need to preserve the embroidery tradition in Punto de Cruz, which is very commonly seen in the kitchen linens found in Encarnación. We wanted to show these designs in things used on a daily basis, such as handbags.

“Thanks to having visited the surrounding communities, such as San Juan de los Lagos and Lagos de Moreno, we were able to call on more artisans to join this project. It is beautiful to see people embroidering these incredible pieces of history in our group.

“We have complemented our knowledge in such a way that we have the tools to help whoever wants to join this beautiful activity. We have learned various techniques, as well as how to mix the colors and the best options for each one of our designs.

“It is fascinating to see such a variety of creativity with each one of our artisans. Even though they use the same technique, each artisan adds a touch that makes the design completely their own.

“Our inspiration is the tradition of this beautiful region of our country, as well as its warmth during the months of autumn. We are also inspired by the combinations of materials that transform into beautiful bags filled with color, allowing each family to sustain itself.

“We want to continue filling more places with our bags, presenting this essential beauty and tradition of our beautiful state while following the passion of the families that help to preserve it.”
