NOVICA Artisan Jorge Elias Martinez
Jorge Elias Martinez
“My brothers Jorge, Hugo, Carlos and I learned the art of glass blowing when we were just kids. It was thanks to my uncle Roberto Elias, who taught this trade. He was one of the first artisans to receive attention in Guadalajara, and he started with his workshop, called "Unique". It was thanks to being close that we learned the process in its entirety.
“My passion for this trade is more than anything the enormous nobility it transmits. The pieces that are created seem magical; since no two pieces are the same. My inspiration is in sudden ideas, since you can’t create new pieces and innovate those that have already been created.
“The beginning of this adventure represented an appealing challenge, since only the family knows the essence of our technique. We had to position our design and maintain a quality that allows us to support our love of technique.
“Our raw material is recycled glass that is obtained from tequila bottles. It is melted and placed in cylinders to proceed with blowing and creating the pieces. The process itself is a delight to watch.
“After 44 years in this trade, it has taught us so much. We have learned to have an open heart to new experiences. Thanks to the flexibility, anyone can create magical pieces.”
