Mirelle was born in Jakarta, the youngest of three children. Her father is Indonesian and her mother is Australian. Her mother is a designer, and ever since Mirelle was child, she loved to make her own paintings and drawings. When she finished high school in Jakarta, she continued her studies in Fine Arts at TAFE College in Australia, where she also learned about felting.

Growing up and spending most of her time in a big crowded city such as Jakarta made Mirelle want to find a place where she could work, express herself freely and be in touch with nature. That's why she decided to move to Bali, where she found the happiness of being herself and the freedom to express her creative ideas.

Mirelle has worked as a model, and she professes her fascination for beautiful things. She likes things that are unique and special. Mirelle also loves silk and became interested in developing a line featuring unique silk designs. This is how Mirelle became interested in combining silk with felt, which remains uncommon in Bali. She teaches people from nearby villages about felt and felt-making.

"Felting for me is like a labor of love," confides Mirelle. "To me, felting is my way of expressing my art. I specialize in one particular style called nuno, which is an older technique that is rare to find nowadays. Most of my products are made this way, and the designs are original and contemporary. The wonderful qualities of wool make the felted fibers perfect for protection against heat, cold, and rain.

"Each felt-making process offers a surprising result, totally unpredictable and dependent on the alchemy reaction of all the combined ingredients to form an all-together new textile. Therefore, each piece is an original work of art.

"At first, felting was just something that fascinated me. Now it is a labor of love that is filled with passion."
