NOVICA Artisan Priti
Priti
I'm from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. Ever since childhood, I was mesmerized by India's creative arts and would often experiment with dress design, paintings, pottery, batik, glass paintings and more. The traditional work on my grandmother's clothes always fascinated me. My mother stitched a few dresses for me, but soon I used to give her my won designs and combinations. Being from a small town is a blessing to me, as it has helped me look at a vivid side of creativity which may not be visible in cities.
Although I took a degree in electronics, my passion for clothes and design led me to study at India's National Institute of Fashion and Technology.
"My design philosophy stresses simplicity and elegance to create graceful attire. I generally work with the natural fiber fabrics like linen, cotton and silk.
"My designs are an expression of creative art for me. I like to use hand-knotted, hand-painted and stitched details in all my apparel. India's traditional craft techniques blend with contemporary designs for a unique aesthetic. I continue to maximize the handmade element in my products with the right mix of handwoven textiles, hand block printing and hand embroidery.
"Twenty five people assist me and I have trained most of them. I am also associated with NGOs that contribute to the welfare of the needy.
"I am in process of establishing my own fashion name with the philosophy of 'creativity and innovativeness with excellent quality and service,' and am committed to providing fine designs that bring feelings of pride and pleasure to the artisans and to the people who wear my apparel." "I like to use hand-knotted, hand-painted and stitched details in all my apparel. India's traditional craft techniques blend with contemporary designs for a unique aesthetic."
