Caramel was living on the streets of Greece as a stray, trying to survive, until one of his eyes started bleeding. Left defenseless, he sought refuge in front of a building and cried in pain waiting for someone to rescue him. A passerby spotted him and brought him to a nearby veterinary hospital.

Upon assessment, he started receiving treatment for eye herpes. His other eye had been extracted prior to coming to the shelter but healed poorly, causing a major infection that requires corrective surgery. He is also losing fur on several different parts of his body.

While Caramel has begun treatment and made progress in healing, his journey back to health isn’t over yet. He is currently being hospitalized to receive injections to treat his skin and will need surgery on his eyes. Will you help Caramel and other injured cats in Greece receive medical care?

Support Caramel while he awaits eye surgery!

In late 2023, Greater Good Charities were approached by groups working in the city of Xanthi, Northern Greece, to assist in the support of over 600 animals seeking out an existence in and around a municipal rubbish site. Since then, working alongside the Animal Rescue Site and community partners, they have provided food, specialist medical care, funded high quality spay-neuter services and supported foster and adoption for dozens of pets.

Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, Greater Good Charities and the Animal Rescue Site are in the process of deepening our commitment to the pets of Xanthi, ensuring every animal has the support it needs. We are also expanding our reach to several new areas within Greece, supporting both cats and dogs in need.
