Worst wildfires in 40+ years are blazing across Georgia and Florida.
Fast-moving wildfires are expanding across southeast Georgia and northeast Florida, burning more than 50,000 acres and destroying homes, businesses, and shelters in their path. Dry conditions, high winds, and no significant rainfall in the forecast are making containment difficult. The Florida Commissioner of Agriculture has described this as the worst fire season in the state in nearly 40 years.
Families are being forced to evacuate, and animal shelters are bracing for an influx of displaced and surrendered pets in need of medical care and food. These shelters are already overcrowded and under-resourced in one of the most heavily overpopulated pet areas of the United States.
Our partner, Greater Good Charities, is already receiving requests from local organizations on the ground. They are mobilizing pet food and supplies, emergency humanitarian packs, and support for beekeepers who have lost their hives.

Research has shown that climate change is making wildfire seasons longer, increasing the intensity of fires, and leading to even more land being burned. In recent years, large scale fires have even wiped out whole towns, displacing people and pets and leaving them without necessities.
As severe fires hit, Greater Good Charities mobilizes in response. When wildfires devastated Maui in 2023 and the Park Fire destroyed homes in California in 2024, GGC distributed Good Packs filled with survival supplies and pet food to displaced families and animals. In January of 2025, wildfires in Los Angeles were some of the most devastating fires ever. We were able to fund Good Packs as well as aid for displaced livestock, medical care for injured pets and wildlife, and emergency flights to help free up space in local shelters.
As further fires occur, Greater Good Charities will continue to assess the situation with their partners and stand ready to deliver more aid.
