Soldier Breaks Formation To Give Daughter A Hug In Emotional Homecoming

As his colleagues stood straight at attention in front of a large audience gathered for a military homecoming ceremony in Fort Carson, Colorado, First Lieutenant Daniel Oglesby broke the rank formation.

He had a very good reason to.

According to ABC, Oglesby had been deployed for the previous eight months with 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, in Southeast Asia. During that time, his young daughter, Karis, was missing him dearly.

Oglesby couldn't help but hug his daughter when she ran to him.

"Cara, she made eye contact with me in the crowd and decided she wanted to say hello a little early so she ran up and gave me a big hug and I just returned the hug back to her," Oglesby told Fox 21 News. "I was trying to decide whether or not it was good practice to break formation, but I didn't have the heart in me to not give my little baby a hug, so I had to go ahead and bend over and give her a hug and kiss on the forehead."
