Winston was a tiny feral kitten when I first saw him jumping between the bricks of a storage unit nine years ago. He and his littermates were so small. I started feeding them and trying to earn their trust.

Winston was the brave one. He would come up to me and rub against my hand. The other kittens never warmed up to me. Two wandered off before I could catch them, and one found a home with a neighbor.

Winston stayed.

He would come in the mornings to eat. He would let me pet him, but he still would not come inside.

Then one day, he walked into our home, decided he owned the place, and moved in.

It has been nine years, and he still owns the place.

James and his blind brother, William, were found abandoned on the street when they were just four weeks old. James was born with one blind eye that started to cause him discomfort. Over time, that eye became increasingly painful and irritated. James is the seeing-eye cat for his brother, making his condition even more urgent to treat.
