Artisan Information

Founded in 2001 in Bolivia, Jalsu Uma focuses on training women in the production of accessories made from alpaca wool. Started by five women, the cooperative now includes more than 20 who are trained in techniques such as hand looming, weaving, and crocheting. Artisans have the option to work from home to care for their children and meet weekly for production matters. Jalsu Uma strives for expansion, providing more women with the opportunity to financially support themselves and their families, innovating new designs, and becoming a leader in Bolivian handicrafts.

Second Purchase - Satisfied Customer

This was my second purchase of the Handmade 100% Alpaca Fingerless Mittens. The first purchase was as a gift for my stepmother, who's in assisted care living. She loves these mittens, both the warmth and softness, while having her fingers free for turning book pages, playing Bingo, or playing cards. I just bought her a second pair of mittens so that she is never without them while one pair is being cleaned. I bought an additional pair for my mother-in-law. These are not just for senior citizens. Anyone who suffers from cold hands, but prefers to have fingers free for routine tasks, will love these. The Alpaca wool is not at all itchy... Very soft.

Waiting on Colder Weather

Can't wait for colder weather so I can try my new gloves. They are beautiful and fit well and I'm sure I'm going to like them.

A big hit!

I bought a variety of colors and gave them to all the girls in the family (ages 8 to 40) as Christmas gifts last year. They all loved them! I have a pair that I wear in a cold office at work as they don't interfere with typing on the keyboard. Definitely recommend!
