Save the lives of mothers and newborn babies by sponsoring a safe childbirth at Mae Tao Clinic.
The Issue:
Along the Thai/Burmese border, infant mortality rates are 5 times higher and maternal mortality rates are 24 times higher than the rest of Thailand. Hundreds of thousands of refugees from the violence in Myanmar (also referred to as Burma) live in poverty, with little or no government assistance, in Thailand.
The Mae Tao Clinic (MTC) operates on private funding alone, serving this at-risk population with a state-of-the-art birthing clinic. In 2024, MTC facilitated 1,558 safe deliveries, but more help is needed. Admissions are rising and more women and children need care.
How You Can Help:
Save a mother and child by donating today— you can ensure a safe birth for just $254. Donations cover essential maternal care from conception through childbirth, including routine examinations, medication, delivery at MTC, and post-delivery observation for both mother and newborn.
Donations also support Mae Tao Clinic's advanced, live-saving care, including cesarean sections and neonatal care requiring specialized equipment and intensive monitoring.
Impact:
We'd like to introduce you to the newest members of the GreaterGood community - Thura. His mother, Poe, worked in the sugarcane fields since she was 14 years old and was married to her husband shortly after. Three years later, she used what little money she had to get transportation to Mae Tao clinic after she found out she was pregnant. She returned a few months later in premature labor and needed immediate care.

Mae Tao staff shared, "At 6:54 PM, less than an hour after arriving at the clinic, Poe gave birth to her baby in a breech position. The baby, born prematurely at eight months, weighed just 2.22 kg. His APGAR score was 8 in the first minute and stabilized within five minutes. Within five days, he received a birth certificate and his first vaccinations at the clinic. Due to premature birth, he developed jaundice and underwent phototherapy and IV antibiotics to prevent infections."
Poe and Thura are doing well and grateful for your support. Poe said, "I want to thank the MTC staff for taking care of me and my baby before and after birth. I was anxious when I learned my baby was in a breech position, and I couldn’t afford the hospital fees. But thanks to the support from donors, I was able to give birth safely at Mae Tao Clinic without financial pressure."
More members include precious girls safely delivered into the arms of their mother Wai di. She was unaware that she was having twins and went into premature labor at home when she was seven months pregnant and ended up losing consciousness! Her family transported her to MTC where staff helped her safely deliver her babies and supported her as she regained consciousness and awareness that she had just delivered TWINS! She was unaware that she was having twins because she did not receive prenatal care.

After their birth the family remained at MTC for six weeks to ensure they were carefully monitored, given treatment and nutritional feeding. Once each twin weighed 5 lbs, the family was discharged to return home. During this time, health workers continuously provided her with health education on immunization, nutrition, breastfeeding, disease prevention and identification, etc.
Now, Wai Di visits the clinic twice a month and each round trip costs her $15 which is more than she can afford. "I need to come more often because I cannot bring two babies at the same time as I cannot hold them both on the motorcycle. It is burdensome and costly but thanks to the clinic (WHICH YOUR DONATIONS HELP COVER) I do not need to pay for any medical bills. I know the trips are worth it for my babies' health and I'd like to thank you for caring about us."
