The concept of using driftwood was originally started after years of typhoons washing the wood up on beaches. Although no one wishes these disasters on any country, the Philippines have been exceptional at finding beauty and economic opportunity in the worst of times.

For nearly 50 years, Freden has been a supplier of one-of-a-kind gifts, ornaments, and home goods. Hand crafted by skilled artisans based in Valenzuela City, Metro Manila in the Philippines, each piece is one of a kind, and made of natural products – mainly from already fallen and distressed wood. Freden provides each artisan the opportunity to work within their household, at their own time, enabling stay at home moms to earn an income in a way that works for them. 
What started as a family tradition – the founder’s father was a wood craft teacher – has developed into a fair-trade supplier of beautiful pieces to be treasured for years to come.

The bird ornament is very pretty but larger than I expected! 9 inches from tip of tail to front part of sticks.
I bought this for my mother, an avid bird lover and watcher for her tree. It’s a bit larger than expected, but I know it will still fit her tree in her condo. It’s actually prettier than the picture and very Christmassy. I know she will love it!
