I was born in Kolkata, India. Those who know me well describe me as someone who is curious, an experimentalist and a preserver.
Since I was quite young, I've had a knack for the marvels of art and beauty all around the globe. Therefore, I pursued a degree in architectural design. The urge to start something of my own was important. So I taught myself in textiles and related fields through observing and practicing.
"I usually work with natural fabrics like cotton, silk, wool and linen yarns woven on a handloom. They are then hand-embellished by different textile techniques, which enhance their artisanal value and make each one unique. We work in batik, tie and dye, and kantha, an ancient running stitch embroidery. Nature, architecture and the people around the globe inspire my designs and creations.
"Starting on my own was a struggle but the journey has been rewarding so far. The happy smiles of shoppers are my favorite part of this craft. The challenge is to understand them and their requirements, and deliver accordingly.
"I look for design perception and enthusiasm in the artisans who collaborate with me. I want them to explore, experiment and learn.
"Perpetuating the use of India's traditional handlooms and weaving techniques, and nurturing the younger generations is important. I want to do as much as I can for my chosen art form and dream of my crafts reaching the global market."

NOVICA was started with a dream to create a better world for artisans, because a better world for artisans is a better world for all.
Along the way, the founders of NOVICA discovered something very important - as artisans around the world succeeded, there was also a visible and profound impact on the communities around them.
Your purchases are that powerful. They directly and indirectly provide for education, help with health care, fund basic needs, support children, preserve disappearing arts, and of course, spread happiness around the world.
The founders of NOVICA had a vision of the future that is not one of mega factories producing cookie cutter products for all to cheaply consume. Instead, a bright future that celebrates artisans who take the time to create an item by hand. A future where time is protected, where stories are told, where unique details are honored. Love, respect, inclusiveness become driving force.
