Update (August, 2019)
I've worked in this beautiful art form since 20001 and I fervently love what I do. I really like showing my work from person to person, telling them what is behind every design I imagine. The creative process is very important for me — that's where it all begins. The crafting process is largely perseverance.
We have participated in several exhibitions where we won some honorable mentions. Although it is not our forte, they allow us to be in contact with people.
Throughout these years, we have allowed ourselves to perfect our metallurgical cuts and now we do them with industrial quality. This has allowed us to increase the quality of our design, define the shapes and create more precise and fluid details.
It's very exciting for me to work with you. I'm thrilled when a sculpture of ours goes to other latitudes. It's very welcome to have that beautiful trust with you. And we have achieved that person-to-person contact that drives us so much.
Now it is my son, Marco Polo, who is in charge of the workshop. We work together to continue creating designs filled with joy.
Original Artisan Story
Hi, my name is Marco Polo Serrano. Yes, believe it or not, my name is really Marco Polo! I was born in a small artisan town surrounded by handicrafts, and most of my family are artisans. By the age of 13, I had a job in a workshop that made artistic ironwork, and in this way I helped pay for my schooling.
When I was 18, I quit working to concentrate on my studies. I got married, and my wife is also from a family of artisans.
When I was 23, she and I decided to open our own workshop with a different design concept, utilizing a metal cutter known as a plasma cutter. I began to work with it, cutting perforated silhouettes from sheet metal. The shapes are cut freehand, and we give them form and texture with a hammer and other tools that I've made myself to create capricious designs. I apply an oxidized finish and protect each piece with a coat of lacquer.
In this way, a piece of metal is transformed into a decorative accessory – sometimes rustic, other times modern. All my designs are crafted in my own workshop. They arise from my imagination, from dreams, or whatever comes to mind as I begin to work with the metal.

NOVICA was started with a dream to create a better world for artisans, because a better world for artisans is a better world for all.
Along the way, the founders of NOVICA discovered something very important - as artisans around the world succeeded, there was also a visible and profound impact on the communities around them.
Your purchases are that powerful. They directly and indirectly provide for education, help with health care, fund basic needs, support children, preserve disappearing arts, and of course, spread happiness around the world.
The founders of NOVICA had a vision of the future that is not one of mega factories producing cookie cutter products for all to cheaply consume. Instead, a bright future that celebrates artisans who take the time to create an item by hand. A future where time is protected, where stories are told, where unique details are honored. Love, respect, inclusiveness become driving force.
