Born in Purwokerto, central Java, Agus Suryanto grew up in Jakarta with his six siblings. "I've loved to design ever since I was a child, and I was always asking my sister to her on her weekly visits to the textile markets, where we explored colors, fabrics and textures together.
"I took up dressmaking and design when I was 15 years old as I helped my sister with her custom made clothing business. When I finished high school, I went to one of the oldest dressmaking schools in Jakarta, where I specialized in pattern design and dressmaking. After completing my course, my sister and I designed our first ready-to-wear collection for men and women.
"I have also created a one-of-a-kind, limited edition apparel collection that includes silk and linen scarves and shawls. My garments are informed by traditional designs, from across the Indonesian archipelago of more than a thousand islands, many of which have their own unique cultures, costumes and designs. The result is a unique interpretation, modern and casual, with hints of ancient ritual and tradition woven into the final product. I have also begun to include influences from other South East Asian countries, resulting in a stunning array of colors and design."

NOVICA was started with a dream to create a better world for artisans, because a better world for artisans is a better world for all.
Along the way, the founders of NOVICA discovered something very important - as artisans around the world succeeded, there was also a visible and profound impact on the communities around them.
Your purchases are that powerful. They directly and indirectly provide for education, help with health care, fund basic needs, support children, preserve disappearing arts, and of course, spread happiness around the world.
The founders of NOVICA had a vision of the future that is not one of mega factories producing cookie cutter products for all to cheaply consume. Instead, a bright future that celebrates artisans who take the time to create an item by hand. A future where time is protected, where stories are told, where unique details are honored. Love, respect, inclusiveness become driving force.
