Update: Chewy is recovering from surgery in a loving foster home who is interested in adopting him. The foster family has a senior Yorkie with a heart condition that they have been managing for years as well as a Shorkey that was rescued and struggled with social skills, just like Chewy.

The rescue shared, "No better place than someone with the experience and history for both his medical and social challenges. Could not be more excited to see where his future goes. Thank you again everyone for supporting him and us. None of it would happen without you!"

After a group of locals saw two dogs running loose in south San Diego, they decided to contact a shelter in the area. With the group's help, staff were able to locate and secure the pair of puppies to bring in to the shelter. When no owner came forward to claim them, they were onboarded for rehabilitation and rehoming.

When Chewy went to the vet for routine check-ups, his doctor observed a severe heart murmur during the initial exam and recommended he see a specialist. Tests showed that this young puppy has a severe heart murmur and Congestive Heart Failure. Chewy has a birth defect causing an enlarged heart, which fortunately can be repaired through surgery.

With surgery, Chewy's heart size would shrink and his prognosis for a full recovery and normal life expectancy is outstanding considering his age and otherwise good health. Shelter staff have also found an experienced and well qualified foster who will oversee his after care and adopt him once fully recovered. While Chewy has begun the road to recovery and is scheduled for surgery, he needs your help to cover his ongoing medical care.

Is there an update on Chewy?

Hello. I did gladly donate towards Chewy's surgery. Is there any update on his condition? I hope he has a good recovery and long life.
Signed, loving Mom of 3 Yorkies (now angels)

Hi Carol,

Thank you for contacting GreaterGood. All pets featured in the Click for Paws that need emergency medical care have already received their life-saving surgeries and the grants are issued to the shelters performing the surgeries after the fact. If the Shelter provides us an update on the animal, it will be posted, but we are at the mercy of the shelter providing that information.

Sincerely,

GreaterGood Customer Service

Chewy

So, so hoping Chewy is given the surgery that he needs, he deserves to have a chance for a normal lovely life. Such a beautiful wee dog and through no fault of his own that he has a severe heart murmur and Congestive Heart Failure.
Much love to Chewy! 💕💕💕
