Together we can ensure this young bird lives the life he's meant to!
This sandhill crane colt was snatched away from his parents by a dog, and, unfortunately, he was unable to be reunited with his family. He was rescued, though, and taken in by the Humane Indiana Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center.
The center says the colt was lost without his parents, crying all day upon arrival. The staff had an outside-the-box idea, though: Placing a taxidermy crane in the colt's enclosure to provide him comfort.
The plan worked like a charm, with the youngster feeling more confident and comfortable in the bird's presence. It also got him on the right path to ultimately being released back into the wild. Will you help give this sandhill crane and other young birds the space they need to be reared and then released?
Greater Good Charities' Rescue Rebuild program is headed to the Humane Indiana Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center for an exciting renovation this June, and you can be part of the project! With your help, the team will repair existing enclosures AND build several new enclosures with predator protection to keep ground birds safe during rehabilitation.
These life-changing updates will create safe spaces for a wide variety of species, from the bald eagle to foxes to reptiles! Will you help Rescue Rebuild improve the lives of these animals and support the amazing work of the Humane Indiana Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center? Donate NOW to make a difference by funding this build and future renovations with Rescue Rebuild!
